Zach Braff,
writer/director,
"Wish I Was Here"
Wish I Was Here, writer/director Zach Braff’s thematic sequel to 2004’s Garden State, focuses on the trials and tribulation of another struggling actor (Braff) who finds himself at odds with his imposing father. In addition to coping with the news that his father Saul (Mandy Patinkin) is dying, Adian Bloom must meet the needs of his home-schooled children (White House Down’s Joey King and Looper’s Pierce Gagnon) while his wife Sarah (Katie Hudson) keeps their family financially afloat. Unable to stick to a home-school curriculum, Adian resorts to imparting life lessons to his children through unconventional means. This does not sit well with his daughter Grace, whose thirst for knowledge is matched only by her desire to enrich herself spiritually. Wish I Was Here also stars Josh Gad, as Aidan's slacker brother Noah, Braff’s Scrubs co-star Donald Faison and his Garden State co-star Jim Parson appear in extended cameos. Wish I Was Here made headlines last year when Zach Braff turned to Kickstarter to raise $2 million toward the dramedy’s $6 million. While many media outlets raised concerns that Braff would divert funds from other projects by first-time indie filmmakers in need of crowdfunding, he managed to raise $3.1 million during the month-long campaign. Wish I Was Here opened July 25 in Austin.
