Interview:
Mike Flanagan,
writer/director,
"Gerald's Game"
For decades, Gerald’s Game remained one of the Stephen King novels that could not be adapted into a film. But that did not stop Oculus Mike Flanagan (left) director from trying and eventually succeeding with adapting the 1992 bestseller. Flanagan’s adaptation of Gerald’s Game received its world premiere during this year’s Fantastic Fest and will debut Sept. 29 on Netflix. Carla Gugino stars as Jessie, who finds herself alone and handcuffed to a bedpost in her country getaway after her husband Gerald (Bruce Greenwood) suffers a heart attack and dies in the middle of a sex game. Jesse wages a war against time—as well as against her own demons—in a bid to survive her horrifying ordeal. In addition to Oculus, Mike Flanagan directed Absentia, Hush, Ouija: Origin of Evil, and the long-delayed Before I Wake. He will next direct the Netflix series The Haunting of Hill House.
