aGLIFF Prism 35
The All Genders, Lifestyles, and Identities Film Festival’s Prism 35 runs Aug. 24-28 at the Galaxy Theatres Austin and virtually from Aug. 29-Sept. 5. Prism 35’s live programming begins Aug. 24 with the opening night documentary All Man: The International Male Story and ends Aug. 28 with the narrative feature You Can Live Forever. The film festival boasts two centerpiece films: the documentary Black as U R on Aug. 26 and the narrative feature Camilla Comes Out Tonight on Aug. 27. On Aug. 25, aGLIFF’s Queer Black Voices Fund will honor three filmmakers: How Not To Date While Trans writer/director Nyala Moon, The Funnel writer/director Charlene A. Carruthers, and Body Language director/producer Odu Adamu. Prism 35 will also include a selection of U.S. and international narrative comedies, dramas, genre and exploitation fare focused on LGBTQ+ relationships and issue; documentaries on Pedro Zamora and Esther Newton; retrospective screenings of Wong Kar-Wai’s 1997 Happy Together, Michael Gottlieb’s 1987’s Mannequin, and David Buckley’s 1975 Saturday Night at the Baths; and a shorts package devoted to activist and filmmaker Pat Rocco. Films with Austin ties include the ethnic non-monogamy drama Three Headed Beast, the self-exploratory comedy Erica’s First Holy Shit, the PJ Raval-produced political documentary A Run for More, and the parent-child relationship documentary Mama Bears. Most of Prism 35’s live programming will be available to stream from Aug. 29-Sept. 5.
