"6 Balloons"
Based on producer Samantha Housman (left) experiences with her brother, writer/director Marja-Lewis Ryan’s (right) Netflix drama 6 Balloons finds Katie (Broad City’s Abbi Jacobson) juggling her July 4 party commitments while trying to get her heroin-addict brother Seth (The Disaster Artist’s Dave Franco) into rehab before the night is over. Complicating matters: they are accompanied by Seth’s daughter Ella, whom he refuses to drop off to her mother out of fear he would lose custody of the young girl. 6 Balloons marks the directorial debut of Marja-Lewis Ryan, who is producing the new untitled L Word TV series and writing Disney’s Splash remake for one of her other 6 Balloons producers, Channing Tatum. 6 Balloons producer Samantha Housman’s credits include 1922, The Bad Batch, and Captain Fantastic. 6 Balloons premiered locally during this year’s SXSW Film Festival and is now available for streaming on Netflix.
