"Flay"
Directed by visual effects supervisor Eric Pham, the Austin-shot horror film Flay pits two siblings against the centuries-old vengeful spirit of a murdered Native American medicine man. Moon Crane and her brother River run afoul of the spirit known as Flay when their mother Patricia dies under mysterious circumstances and they discover a chain cursed by the medicine man before his death. Alita: Battle Angel and Mercy Black’s Elle LaMont plays Moon andCloak & Dagger’s Dalton E. Gray plays River. The cast also includes Peggy Schott as Patricia Crane, Phantasm’s A. Michael Baldwin as family friend Billy Salcedo, and The Flash and God Friended Me’s Violett Beane as River’s girlfriend Bethany. Flay will screen 7 p.m. May 26 at the Spider House Ballroom and is currently available for on demand viewing. Flay represents the Austin-based Eric Pham’s first directorial effort since his 2011 debut Action News 5. Eric Pham has worked as a digital effects artist or visual effects artist on such films as The World is Not Enough, Mission: Impossible II, Vertical Limit, and the Austin-shot The Iron Orchard. Locally, Pham served as the 2-D supervisor for Robert Rodriguez’s Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over, Sin City, The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D, andGrindhouse.
