"Two Step"
Marking the directorial debut of Austin’s Alex R. Johnson, the thriller Two Step pits a grieving college student (newcomer Skyy Moore) against an ex-con played by (Looper’s James Landry Hébert) responsible for scamming his late grandmother. Newcomer Skyy Moore plays the student; Looper’s James Landry Hébert plays the ex-con. The cast also includes Ashley Rae Spillers, Under the Dome’s Beth Broderick, and Revolution’s Jason Douglas. Two Step, which premiered at this year’s SXSW Film Festival, marks the fourth collaboration between writer/director Alex R. Johnson and composer Andrew Kenny of The Wood Birds and The American Analog Set. Kenny scored Johnson’s 2008 short film Pick Up and Return and Johnson directed the music videos “Criminal Wins” and “Long Time to Lose It” for Kenny’s Austin-based band The Wooden Birds. The Austin Film Society will screen Two Step at 7:30 p.m. July 29 at the Marchesa Hall & Theatre with Alex R. Johnson and Andrew Kenny in attendance. Composer Andrew Kenny joins writer/director Alex R. Johnson during this interview.
