Interview:
Andy Serkis,
"War for the Planet of the Apes"
In War for the Planet of the Apes, the third entry in the rebooted Planet of the Apes franchise, the genetically enhanced Caesar leads his tribe of apes into battle against troops led by a harden colonel who is determined to wipe out Earth’s new dominant species for once and for all. Andy Serkis returns as Caesar, whose quest for vengeance undermines his ability to keep his tribe safe and secure. Serkis is joined by Woody Harrelson as The Colonel and Steve Zahn as “Bad Ape,” a chimpanzee with the knowledge Caesar needs to find and to confront the Colonel. Andy Serkis is cinema’s leading performance-capture actor, having brought to life Gollum in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies, the Eighth Wonder of the World in the 2005 remake of King Kong, Captain Haddock in The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, and the Supreme Leader Snoke in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Serkis’s directorial debut, Breathe, will open the 2017 London Film Festival. He also is in post-production on Jungle Book, which features Serkis as Baloo, Christian Bale as Bageera, Benedict Cumberbatch as Shere Khan and Cate Blanchett as Kaa. Serkis has worked multiple times with the Oscar-winning Joe Letteri, the Senior Visual Effects Supervisor of Weta Digital, which Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson co-founded in 1993. Joe Letteri won Best Visual Effects Oscar for The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, King Kong and Avatar. Joe Leterri joins Andy Serkis during this interview, which was conducted during RTX 2017, where War for the Planet of the Apes debuted locally.
