"The Cult of AGFA Trailer Show"
![]() In a world where the trailer is as much an artform as the movie it promotes, the Austin-based American Genre Film Archive dedicates itself to the handcrafting of 35mm mixtapes comprised of trailers for films hit or flop, beloved or forgotten, praised or damned. Following 2020’s The AGFA Horror Show and its 2021 sequel The AGFA Horror Show: Videorage, The Cult of AGFA Trailer Show compiles more than 45 trailers for classic or relatively unknown thrillers, chillers, comedies, sci-fi epics, and family films found in the AGFA archives. Trailers range from Eraserhead and Escape from New York to Pinocchio’s Birthday Party, Sins of Rachel, and Tough Beauty and the Sloppy Slop. Directed by AGFA’s Joseph A. Ziemba and Bret Berg, The Cult of AGFA Trailer Show also includes a preshow and an intermission featuring in-theater promos, commercials, and PSAs. The Cult of AGFA Trailer Show screens at 11:20 p.m. Sept. 23 and 5:30 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Alamo South Lamar during Fantastic Fest. Based in Austin, the non-profit American Genre Film Archive also will co-present several repertory screenings during Fantastic Fest: 1974’s Messiah of Evil at 8 p.m. Sept. 21 and 11:25 a.m. Sept. 26; 1982’s Centipede Horror; 1988’s The Nest at 2 p.m. Sept. 26, 1996’s Bugged! at 11:25 a.m. Sept. 27. Joseph A. Ziemba’s Bleeding Skull, which platforms shot-on-video genre cinema, also presents 1984’s Blonde Death at 11:10 p.m. Sept. 22 and 11:15 a.m. Sept. 27. Joseph A. Ziemba is AGFA's creative director; Bret Berg is AGFA's theatrical sales director.
