Interview:
Mark Gill,
president/CEO,
Solstice Studios,
"Unhinged"
The Russell Crowe thriller Unhinged is not just the first wide release to hit reopened theaters during the Coronavirus Pandemic but also the first theatrical release of the new independent movie company Solstice Studios. In this study of white-male road rage, Crowe stars as a bitter divorced man who goes on a homicidal rampage. He targets a young mother (Mortal Engines' Caren Pistorius) who inadvertently crosses his path. During this interview, Solstice Studios president/CEO Mark Gill discusses the thought process behind Unhinged being the first wide release to play in reopened theaters, the willingness of audiences to return to the movies, and theater safety protocols. He also provides status updates on two thrillers with Austin ties: director Robert Rodriguez's Hypnotic, starring Ben Affleck, and Bomb Squad, cowritten by Transpecos' director Greg Kwedar and co-writer Clint Bentley.
