"Mickey: The Story of a Mouse"
Directed by Marwencol's Jeff Malmberg, the Disney+ documentary Mickey: The Story of a Mouse details the rich history behind Walt Disney's most famous character, examining the circumstances surrounding his creation, his rise to prominence, his evolution as both animated character and corporate logo, and his enduring appeal and relevance. The documentary is framed against the production of a new 1-minute hand-drawn short called Mickey in a Minute. Mickey: The Story of a Mouse will screen during the SXSW Film Festival at 12 p.m. Saturday, March 19 at the Paramount Theatre. Mickey: The Story of a Mouse is also available for SXSW Film Festival registrants to stream online for 24 hours beginning at 9 a.m. Sunday, March 20. Mickey: The Story of a Mouse will debut on Disney+ later this year. Jeff Malmberg also directed the documentaries Spettacola and Marwencol, which inspired director Robert Zemeckis’ 2018 narrative remake Welcome to Marwen.
