Interview:
Bomani T. Story,
writer/director,
"The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster"
A contemporary retelling of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, writer/director Bomani J. Story’s The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster focuses on a high school student’s attempts to play God. Deeply traumatized by the gun violence she has witnessed or been touched by, aspiring scientist Vicaria (The Equalizer’s Laya DeLeon Hayes) believes death is a disease that must be cured. So she plots to bring the dead back to life in the same manner as Victor Frankenstein. But her experiments result in the creation of a creature (Edem Atsu-Swanzy) she cannot control. The creature begins to terrorize the residents of housing project Vicaria lives in, attracting the unwanted attention of both the police and the local drug dealers. The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster will screen during the SXSW Film & TV Festival at 5:30 p.m. March 11 at the Alamo South Lamar, 7 p.m. March 16 at the Violet Crown Cinema, and 7:30 p.m. March 16 at the Violet Crown Cinema.
