Interview:
Andrew Bujalski,
co-writer,
"Lady and the Tramp"
Co-written by Austin-based independent filmmaker Andrew Bujalski, the live-action remake of the 1955 animated classic Lady and the Tramp represents one of the first original Disney+ films to debut on the Mouse House’s new streaming service. Tessa Thompson voices Cocker Spaniel Lady and Justin Theroux voices the stray Schnauzer-mutt Butch, two dogs from different worlds who meet and slowly fall for each other. Lady finds a kindred spirit in Butch when her owners, Jim and Darling Dear (Thomas Mann and Kiersey Clemons, respectively), have a baby. But while Lady lives in the lap of luxury, Butch must steer clear of New Orlean’s most infamous dogcatcher if he is to continue to enjoy the freedom he so relishes. The voice cast also includes Sam Elliott as Trusty, Ashley Jensen as Jock, Janelle Monáe as Peg, Benedict Wong as Bull, and Clancy Brown as Isaac. The human cast also includes Yvette Nicole Brown as Aunt Sarah, Adrian Martinez as dog catcher Elliot, and F. Murray Abraham as Italian restaurant owner Tony. Lady and The Tramp, which is directed by Charlie Bean, is now available to stream at Disney+. Lady and the Tramp marks a rare studio project for the Austin-based Andrew Bujalski, who previously directed the independent films Support the Girls, Results, Computer Chess, Besswax, People's Houses, Mutual Appreciation and Funny Ha Ha.
