Interview:
Sam Catlin,
Executive Producer,
"Preacher"
AMC’s adaptation of the comic-book series Preacher by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon stars Dominic Cooper as Jesse Custer, the small-town Texas clergyman who becomes host to Genesis, the unholy product of a union between an angel and demon. Six episodes in and Custer has transformed from a disillusioned preacher struggling with his checkered past to a dynamic sermonizer blessed with he believes is “The Word of God.” Temptation comes in the form of Jesse’s ex-girlfriend Tulip O’Hare, played by Cooper’s real-life partner Ruth Negga. Tuilp tries to enlists Custer in her revenge plot against the former gang member who betrayed them years earlier. Preacher also stars Joseph Gilgun as the Irish vampire Cassidy, Ian Colletti as disfigured suicide survivor and parishioner Eugene, and Jackie Earle Haley as corrupt businessman Odin Quinncannon. Originally planned a film, and then as a HBO series, Preacher was rescued from development hell by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. Executive producer Sam Catlin (left), who previously worked on the AMC drama Breaking Bad, rounds out Preacher’s development team. This interview with Sam Catlin was conducted during the ATX TV Festival.
