"Me and Earl and the Dying Girl"
Based on the book by Jesse Andrews, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl stars Thomas Mann as Greg, a misfit high school student who is forced by his parents (Connie Britton and Nick Offerman) to visit Rachel (Olivia Cooke) when she is diagnosed with leukemia. Greg and Rachel strike up a friendship that forces Greg to confide to Rachel that he makes short remakes of classic films with his only friend, Earl (RJ Cyler). Things get complicated between Greg and Earl when they are asked to make a film that celebrates Rachel's life. The Laredo-born Alfonso Gomez-Rejon directed Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, which opens June 26 in Austin. His previous film, the quasi remake/sequel The Town That Dreaded Sundown, screened during last year's Fantastic Fest. Gomez-Rejon also has directed episodes of Glee and American Horror Story. His next film, Collateral Beauty, may star Hugh Jackman, Rooney Mara, and Jason Segel.
