Directed by Christopher Alender and written by Marcos Gabriel, The Old Ways chronicles the exorcism of a Mexican-American journalist possessed by a demon called Postenki. Cristina, while on assignment in her native Veracruz in Mexico, wakes up to find herself held captive in the home of a local witch and her son. She refuses to believe their extraordinary claim that she has become host to The Death God of Broken Things … until she begins to experience the strange and the unexplainable. Brigitte Kali Canales, who recently guested starred in Fear the Walking Dead, stars as Cristina. The rest of the cast features Julia Vera as Luz the “bruja,” Sal Lopez as her son Javi, Andrea Cortés as Cristina’s cousin, and AJ Bowen as Cristina’s editor. The Old Ways will screen May 22 during the Other Worlds Film Festival's Return to the Galaxy, an Under Worlds Film Festival at the Galaxy Highland Theatre. Longtime friends Christopher Alender and Marcos Gabriel, who run the creative agency and production company Soapbox Films, previously collaborated on the 1999 college film Memorial Day.
