Directed by Osgood Perkins, the Brothers Grimm fairy tale retelling Gretel & Hansel pits two young siblings against the witch with an appetite for children. It’s Sophia Lillis and newcomer Sam Leakey play Gretel and Hansel, respectively, who cross paths with Alice Krige’s Holda when they are abandoned by their mother. Holda’s unusual interest slowly raises Gretel’s suspicions and her concern for Hansel. Gretel & Hansel opened Jan. 31. The son of actor Anthony Perkins, Osgood Perkins began his career as an actor, appearing in Psycho II, Six Degrees of Separation, Legally Blonde, and Secretary. He transitioned to writing with Removal and Cold Comes the Night before making his directorial debut with The Blackcoat’s Daughter, which screened at during the 2015 SXSW Film Festival under the title February. He followed up The Blackcoat’s Daughter with the Netflix chiller I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House.
