Directed by Juliano Ribeiro Salgado (center) and Wim Wenders (left), the documentary The Salt of the Earth traces the life and career of Salgado’s father, the celebrated Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado (right). His photographs aim to capture the social, political, and environmental challenges that shape the human condition. The Salt of the Earth premiered locally at this year’s SXSW Film Festival and opened May 1 in Austin.
