Austin Film Festival
The Austin Film Festival doesn’t begin until Oct. 29 but the festival plans to remain busy during the summer. The documentary Popovich and the Fabled Voice of the American West will screen June 1. The festival will launch its new POV Series on June 10 with Art and Craft followed by Web Junkie and Point and Shoot. Rushmore, The Last Picture Show, Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, and Friday Night Lights will screen as part of the Texas Focus Series. The Emperor’s New Grove will screen June 6 as part of the Family Film Series, followed by a conversation with director Mark Dindal and screenwriter David Reynolds on June 7. The 1984 Karate Kid will also screen July 11 during the Family Film Series, followed on July 12 by a conversation with screenwriter Robert Mark Kamen, who has spent the past two decades collaborating with Luc Beeson on The Fifth Element, Taken, and the Transporter franchises. Also, the Austin Film Festival will hold summer film camps from June 8 through July 31 for kids ages 9-12 and 13-18. Austin Film Festival marketing director Fernando Martinez joins senior film programmer Liz Mims during this interview.
