![]() Austin-based director Andrew Bujalski follows up his 2015 comedy Results with Support the Girls, a "day in the life of" workplace character study that follows that trials and tribulations of the dedicated manager of a Hooters-like local sports bar. Regina Hall of Girls Trip, The Best Man and Scary Movie stars as Lisa Conroy, whose day at Double Whammies begins with the discovery of a botched break-in and continues with her efforts to deal with unruly customers, to protect her staff from her meddling, demanding boss, and to resolve personal issues involving her estranged husband. Support the Girls also stars James LeGros as Double Whammies owner and Haley Lu Richardson, Shayna McHayle (aka rapper Junglepussy), Dylan Gelula, and AJ Michalka as several of the Austin restaurant’s scantily clad and perpetually harassed servers. Support the Girls will screen during the SXSW Film Festival at 7:30 p.m. March 16 at the Rollins Theatre at the Alamo Ritz and 11:30 a.m. March 17 at the Alamo South Lamar. Andrew Bujalski previously directed Results, Computer Chess, Besswax, People's Houses, Mutual Appreciation and Funny Ha Ha.
Update: Support the Girls opened Aug. 24 in Austin. Director Andrew Bujalski will attend the 5 p.m. Aug. 26 screening at the Austin Film Society's AFS Cinema and the 7:30 p.m. Aug. 26 screening at the Alamo South Lamar.
