Interview:
Deepak Chetty,
wrier/director,
"Hard Reset"
Austin-based writer/director Deepak Chetty’s Blade Runner-inspired sci-fi thriller Hard Reset is set in future America where androids known as “synchs” are created to serve and pleasure their human counterparts. But a movement to make “synths” more human than human—through a virus known as “True Sentencing”—incurs the wrath of a government that fears “synths” becoming the dominant species. Miles Archer (Oryan Landa West), a detective with the TEC Force, is called in to investigate the murder of a man by a “synth,” Jane PS-626 (Josephine McAdam). What Archer learns may change his view of “synths” and their place in the world. Deepak Chetty previously directed the documentary short Dreamer and the narrative shorts Ace in the Hole and The Ascendant. He also has provided visual effects for such Texas-made films as Lazer Team and current film festival circuit favorites Discreet and Mr. Roosevelt. Nathan Felix composed the score for Hard Reset, which is available for streaming at Steam and will screen 9 p.m. Aug. 2 at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts during the San Antonio Film Festival. Nathan Felix previously composed the score for Deepak Chetty's The Ascendant and also composed the score for two additional San Antonio Film Festival shorts, Lost Bucolic and Melissa.
