Interview:
Jeremy King,
"Scare Package II:
Rad Chad's Revenge"
Not even receiving a fatal punch through the face by the Devil’s Lake Impaler can keep Austin’s favorite video store owner Rad Chad Buckley down and out. Played by Jeremy King, the proprietor of Rad Chad’s Horror Emporium and the world’s biggest Joe Bob Briggs fan—as well as the breakout star of co-writer/director Aaron B. Koontz’s horror comedy anthology Scare Package—may be dead but that cannot stop him from sharing his love of horror from beyond the grave. In Koontz’s Scare Package II: Rad Chad’s Revenge, the motormouthed horror fanatic makes his posthumous return and he wants to play a game in a sequel that both celebrates the Saw franchise and pokes fun at its convoluted mythology. At the end of Rad Chad’s funeral, some of his friends, family, customers, and business associates are drugged, abducted, and imprisoned in an abandoned warehouse. Through a series of videotaped messages apparently recorded by Rad Chad before his untimely demise, the hostages learn they must escape a series of traps if they are to survive the night. Each trap ties into a classic horror film and/or one of Scare Package II’s four tales of terror. Alexandra Barreto directs Welcome to the 90s, which dissects final girl tropes. Jed Shepherd, the writer of Host, reunites that found footage chiller’s cast for Special Edition, a riff on the Three Men and a Baby ghost urban legend. Rachele Wiggins offers her spin on Re-Animator among other 1980s classics with We're So Dead. Scare Package’s Anthony Cousins returns with The Night He Came Back Again! Part VI: The Night She Came Back, a sequel to his The Night He Came Back Again! Part IV - The Final Kill, which once again pits the segment’s final girl Daisy against a serial killer who cannot be killed. Boasting an ensemble cast mostly straight out of Austin, Scare Package II: Rad Chad’s Revenge sees the return of Jeremy King as both Rad Chad and his British cousin Bo Buckley, Zoe Graham as Scare Package’s final girl Jessie, Byron Brown as Rad Chad’s Horror Emporium’s most loyal but unsettling customer Sam, and Dustin Rhodes as the Devil’s Lake Impaler. New cast members include Kelli Maroney, Graham Skipper, Rich Sommer, and Shakira Ja'nai Paye. Scare Package II: Rad Chad’s Revenge, which premiered locally during last year’s Other Worlds Film Festival, is now on Blu-Ray and DVD. The sequel is also still available to stream on Shudder. Actor Jeremy King has worked on and off with Aaron Koontz and Cameron Burns of the Austin-based Paper Street Pictures for two decades, playing related characters each with the last name Buckley in the Scare Package films as well as their features Camera Obscura and The Pale Door and the short film The El Chupugcabra. He also appeared in Austin-based filmmaker Chris McInroy’s short horror comedy Guts. The Florida resident will next be seen in two Sunshine State-shot projects, the Martin Kove romantic drama A Taste of Love and the Vince Vaughn TV series Bad Monkey.
