"Hard Luck Love Song"
Based on the Todd Snider song “Just Like Old Times,” writer/director Justin Corsbie’s drama Hard Luck Love Song finds Americana songwriter-turned-pool shark Jesse arriving in California to hustle some easy marks and reconnect with his onetime love Carla. Patriot and For All Mankind’s Michael Dorman plays Jesse, One Tree Hill and Chicago P.D.’s Sophia Bush plays Carla. The supporting cast includes Dermot Mulroney, Eric Roberts, Melora Walters, and RZA. Hard Luck Love Song will stream during the 2020 virtual Austin Film Festival, which runs Oct. 22-29. Commercials director Justin Corsbie, who splits his time between L.A. and his native Austin, makes his narrative directorial debut with Hard Luck Love Song, which is produced by his wife, Allison R. Smith. Corsbie and Smith previously worked together on the documentary Vegas Bound and the mockumentary TV pilot Hot Dogs & Hand Grenades. Denton native Smith, who received her Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Texas, also directed the 2013 documentary Slavery Out of the Shadows: Spotlight on Human Trafficking.
