Interview:
Riley Cusick,
writer/director/star,
"The Wild Man"
Written and directed by Austin native Riley Cusick, the drama The Wild Man chronicles the challenges faced by a young man as he struggles to care for his mentally ill father. For more than a decade, Scott’s father Jeff has not only believed he is a bear but refuses to wear anything but a bear costume with horns on its head. As Jeff’s condition worsens, and he experiences the occasional violent outburst, Scott comes under pressure from his concerned Uncle Walter to place his father in a care facility. The Wild Man stars Cusick as Scott, legendary genre director Larry Fessenden as his Uncle Walter, and Terrifer franchise star Jenna Kanell as Jackie, a single mother who develops a strong friendship with Scott after a potentially deadly encounter with his father. Cusick’s real-life father Jeff Cusick plays Jeff out of the bear suit and Chance Gibbs plays the costumed Jeff. Shot in and around Fort Worth, The Wild Man will screen at 7 p.m. Nov. 2 at the Galaxy Theatres Austin during the Austin Film Festival. Riley Cusick previously wrote, directed, and starred in the 2021 chiller Autumn Road. Aired: Nov. 1, 2022.
