Interview:
Will Bakke,
co-writer/director,
"The Get Together"
Based on his 2015 short comedy of the same name, Austin-based director Will Bakke’s The Get Together tells three interconnected stories set during one evening at a house party. Bakke’s first chapter finds recent college grad August (newcomer Courtney Parch) struggling to adjust to her new life in Austin and clinging too tightly to her roommate. The second chapter focuses on Betsy’s (Quantico’s Johanna Braddy) weekend trip back to Austin after spending years in New York City establishing herself as a success while distancing herself from the close friends she left behind in Texas. The third chapter puts Betsy’s musician ex Caleb (Alejandro Rose-Garcia, a.k.a. singer-songwriter Shakey Graves) through an emotional wringer as he grapples with his feelings for Betsy. August, Betsy, and Caleb’s paths cross at a house party that promises to change their lives forever. The Get Together’s ensemble cast also includes Boyhood’s Ellar Coltrane, Krisha’s Bill Wise, and The Tiny Life of Butcher Duke’s Chad Werner, who appeared in Bakke's original short film. The Get Together will stream during the 2020 virtual Austin Film Festival, which runs Oct. 22-29. Dallas native Will Bakke previously directed the Christian-themed comedy Believe Me, which he also cowrote with The Get Together’s Michael B. Allen, as well the documentaries One Nation Under God and Beware of Christians. Note: The Get Together is available for digital and on-demand viewing beginning May 14.
