Interview:
Owen Egerton,
writer/director/star,
"Blood Fest"
Written and directed by Austin-based author Owen Egerton, the Rooster Teeth comedy chiller Blood Fest pits a group of horror fans against a filmmaker with murderous intentions. Egerton stars as film director Anthony Walsh, who organizes a horror festival called Blood Fest with the intention of unleashing iconic movie psychopaths and monsters on unsuspecting attendees so he can bring an unparalleled level of realism to the footage he is shooting for his new project. Stranded on festival grounds are horror fan Dax (Once Upon a Time’s Robbie Kay plays Dax) and his friends Sam (Falling Skies’ Seychelles Gabriel) and Krill (Spider-Man: Homecoming’s Jacob Batalon. Dax, whose mother died at the hands of a mental patient when he was a child, believes he and his friends can survive this evening of terror if they follow the rules for surviving a horror film. The cast also includes Rooster Teeth favorite Barbara Dunkelman as Dax’s actress-friend Ashley; Crunch Time’s Nick Rutherford as a horror auteur; Chris Doubek as horror movie star Hinckley; and Tate Donovan as Dax’s father, Dr. Conway. Blood Fest represents the third feature film by Rooster Teeth and the Austin-based production company’s first outside of the Lazer Team franchise. Blood Fest, which premiered during this year’s SXSW Film Festival, will screen 7 p.m. Aug. 3 at the Paramount Theatre as part of RTX Austin’s Nighttime Programming. Blood Fest also will screen 7:30 p.m. Aug. 14 at various Austin theaters via Fathom Events in advance of its Aug. 31 VOD and Oct. 2 Blu-Ray/DVD release. RTX Austin will be held Aug. 3-5 at the Austin Convention Center, with Nighttime Programming kicking off Aug. 2 with FIRST Night previews of Arizona Circle, Hardcore Tabletop and The Weird Place at 5:30 p.m. at the Paramount Theatre and the comedy gaming show Let’s Play Live at 7:30 p.m. at the Austin Convention Center.
