Interview: Nacho Vigalondo,
director, "Open Windows"
Shot in Austin, director Nacho Vigalondo’s Hitchcockian techno thriller Open Windows pits Elijah Wood’s mild-mannered contest winner against the homicidal hacker (Neil Maskell) who has kidnapped Sasha Grey’s movie star. A twist on the usual found-footage shocker, Vigalondo employs computer windows to show how the deadly cat-and-mouse game play out online. The beginning of Open Windows is set during Fantastic Fest at the pre-remodeled Alamo South Lamar, so it is only appropriate the film will screen 5:45 p.m. Sept. 24 during Fantastic Fest in advance of its Oct. 2 VOD release. One of Fantastic Fest’s favorite sons, Vigalondo previously directed Timecrimes and Extraterrestrial. He also has contributed a segment to V/H/S: Viral and compiled his short films into the feature-length package Confetti of the Mind. V/H/S: Viral and Confetti of the Mind also will screen during Fantastic Fest. Open Windows premiered locally during this year's SXSW Film Festival. Nacho Vigalondo spoke during SXSW about Open Windows, his affection for Austin, and the casting of local resident Elijah Wood and former adult film actress Sasha Grey.
