Interview:
Mark Dindal,
director,
"The Emperor's New Groove"
Directed by Mark Dindal and written by Dave Reynolds, Disney’s 2000 traditionally animated buddy adventure The Emperor’s New Groove finds the David Spade-voiced Kuzco dethroned as emperor of the Incas by his disgruntled advisor Yzma (Eartha Kitt) and transformed into a llama for his troubles. Abandoned in the middle of the jungle, the self-absorbed brat must rely on villager Pacha (John Goodman) to escort him to his palace without running afoul of Yzma and her henchman Kronk (Patrick Warburton). The Emperor’s New Groove spawned a direct-to-video sequel, Kronk’s New Groove, and the Disney Channel series The Emperor’s New School. In addition to The Emperor’s New Groove, Mark Dindal directed Warner Bros.’ 1997 Cats Don’t Dance and Disney’s first fully computer-animated film, 2005’s Chicken Little. Dave Reynolds also wrote Pixar’s 2003 Finding Nemo and contributed to Mulan, A Bug’s Life, Fantasia/2000, and The Jungle Book 2. The Austin Film Festival will screen The Emperor’s New Groove at 2 p.m. June 6 at the Galaxy Highland Theater with director Mark Dindal and screenwriter Dave Reynolds in attendance for a post-screening Q&A. Screenwriter Dave Reynolds joins director Mark Dindal during this interview.
