"Bright Shadow"
The documentary Bright Shadow traces the ups and downs that folk singer-songwriter Ana Egge has endured since she relocated to Austin to record her critically acclaimed debut album, 1997’s River Under the Road. Egge’s decision to leave Austin a few years later resulted in her career stalling and a diminished desire to record and perform live. Bright Shadow finds Egge in Brooklyn, New York, as she balances her menial day job against her efforts to record her 2011 comeback album Bad Blood with producer Steve Earle. The documentary also focuses on Egge’s relationship with her wife Amy and with her sister Rose, whose pattern of self-destructive behavior informed the songs on Bad Blood. The documentary takes its title from Egge’s 2015 album Bright Shadow. Directed by Jesse Lyda, Bright Shadow will screen 3:10 p.m. Sept. 11 during the Austin Gay & Lesbian International Film Festival. Co-writer/producer Jason Welling joins co-writer/editor David Fabelo joins during this interview.
