Interview:
Julia Halperin and Jason Cortlund,
directors,
"La Barracuda"
Directed by Austin-based couple Julia Halperin and Jason Cortlund, the drama La Barracuda focuses on the relationship between half-sisters who meet for the first time as adults years after the death of their father, a famous singer-songwriter. Merle (Fargo's Allison Tolman) is his daughter from his marriage to Patricia (The Big Chill's JoBeth Williams). Sinaloa (newcomer Sophie Reid) is his daughter from an affair he had while recording an album in England. Sinaloa disrupts Merle’s life in many ways, and Patricia isn’t particularly pleased that Sinaloa has arrived unannounced in Austin. Jason Cortlund wrote La Barracuda and directed the film with Julia Halperin. They previously directed the 2012 drama Now, Forager, which also starred Cortlund. La Barracuda will screen during this SXSW Film Festival. Screening times are TBA.
