Director Nick Gillespie's American Idol-Death Wish mashup Paul Dood's Deadly Lunch Break finds a despondent talent show contestant out for revenge after being humiliated on social media and suffering a personal tragedy. Tom Meeten stars in this SXSW Online black comedy as the aggrieved 40something Paul Dood, who decides to violently take out his personal and professional frustrations on those he believes are responsible for his failure to win the live-streamed contest. Meeten (The Mighty Boosh and The It Crowd) heads a cast of British comedy's who's who, including Alice Lowe, Johnny Vegas, Katherine Parkinson, Kevin Bishop, and Steve Oram. Nick Gillespie previously directed the 2015 psychological chiller Tank 432. He also served as a director of photography on Summerland and In Fabric and as a camera operator on Stan & Ollie and Free Fire. Paul Dood's Deadly Lunch Break premieres 4 p.m. central March 17 during SXSW Online, which runs through March 20. Aired: March 18, 2021.
