director,
"Turn Every Page:
The Adventures of Robert Caro and Robert Gottlieb"
Directed by Lizzie Gottlieb, Turn Every Page: The Adventures of Robert Caro and Robert Gottlieb examines the working relationship between the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of “The Years of Lyndon Johnson” series of biographies and his highly respected editor-in-chief at Alfred A. Knopf and The New Yorker. Gottlieb, the daughter of Robert Gottlieb, traces each literary legend’s life and career before dissecting their collaborations as writer and editor, beginning with 1974’s Robert Moses biography “The Power Broker” and continuing with four of the five published volumes of “The Years of Lyndon Johnson.” Director Lizzie Gottlieb follows Caro to Austin and the Hill Country as the writer discusses his research into President Lyndon B. Johnson while working on his long-awaited untitled fifth volume of “The Years of Lyndon Johnson.” She also provides intimate details about her father Robert Gottlieb, who also edited nonfiction books by Bill Clinton, Katharine Graham, Katharine Hepburn, and Paul Simon as well as works of fiction by John le Carré, Len Deighton, Joseph Heller, Doris Lessing, Toni Morrison, and Salman Rushdie. Turn Every Page: The Adventures of Robert Caro and Robert Gottlieb, which premiered locally during last year’s Austin Film Festival, opened Jan. 27 at the AFS Cinema. Lizzie Gottlieb also directed the documentaries Romeo Romeo and Today’s Man. Aired: Jan. 24, 2023.
