April 2023 Programming
The Austin Film Society kicks off its April 2023 programming at the AFS Cinema with the series "Kelly Reichardt: The First Five," featuring River of Grass, Old Joy, Wendy and Lucy, Meek's Cutoff, and Night Moves. Reichardt's new film, Showing Up, opens April 14 at the AFS Cinema. The Austin-shot Hollywood satire Make Popular Movies screens April 2. Austin-based filmmaker Andrew Bujalski's Computer Chess receives a 10th anniversary screening, also on April 2, with Bujalski and cast members in attendance. New releases include All That Breathes, Enys Men, Return to Seoul, and Sick of Myself. Documentaries include Simple as Water, 3 Hours to Love, and Hidden Letters. Olivier Assayas's documentary HHH: Portrait of Hou Hsiao-Hsien screens in conjunction with Hsiao-Hsien's Millennium Mambo. The AFS Cinema will also host a members-only test screening of the new Errol Morris documentary Tune Out the Noise. Retrospective screenings include Alien, Don't Look Now, Memories of Murder, Repo Man, Solaris and Wild Strawberries. The Queer Cinema: Lost & Found series brings Jon Moritsugu's Mod Fuck Explosion to the AFS Cinema. The original theatrical version of Irréversible, The Wounded Man, Fugue, and Cemetery of Splendour round out the Lates.
