International Film Festival
Devoted to films made by and/or about Latinos or Indigenous peoples of the America, the 22nd Cine Las Americas International Film Festival runs May 1-5 at various Austin venues, including the AFS Cinema, the Violet Crown Cinema, the Mexican American Cultural Center, the Nomad Bar, and Originator Studios. The festival opens May 1 with the documentary Carlos Almaraz: Playing with Fire and closes May 5 with the Peruvian romantic comedy No me divas solterona (Don’t Call Me a Spinster). Films with Austin ties include Zachary P. Grigg’s Bentley’s Will and the shorts The Bubbleman, Cake, Cantina, First Generation, Plane Pretend, This Feels Like a Setup, and West of Leona.
