"Troop Zero"
In the 1977-set family comedy Troop Zero, a ragtag group of school children in Georgia discover the joy of friendship when they unite to form their own Birdie Scouts troop. The leader is the outer space-obsessed Christmas Flint (Mckenna Grace), who wants to win a competition to record a message for NASA’s Golden Records, an audio and video time capsule for the Voyager spacecraft. Christmas is joined by Joseph (Charlie Shotwell), who is teased by other children for being more interested in fashion and music than school sports. The makeshift Birdies Scout troop is rounded out by reformed school bully Hell-No Price (Mila Ray), the withdrawn Smash (Johanna Colón), and the devout Christian Anne-Claire (Bella Higginbotham). Troop Zero’s adult cast is led by Viola Davis as Miss Rayleen, Troop Zero’s mother; Allison Janney as Miss Massey, a rival troop mother; and Jim Gaffigan as Ramsey Flint, Christmas’ widowed father. Troop Zerois directed by Katie Ellwood and Amber Templemore-Finlayson aka the directing duo Bert & Bertie, and written by Beasts of the Southern Wild’s Lucy Alibar. Mckenna Grace played the young Carol Danvers in Captain Marveland the young Tonya Harding in I, Tonya, opposite her Troop Zerocostar Allison Janney. She also appeared in Mr. Church, Gifted, How to be a Latin Lover, and the franchise films Independence Day: Resurgence, Amityville: The Awakening, and Annabelle Come Home. She will next star in Ghostbusters: Afterlife and will voice the young Daphne in the Scooby-Dooanimated feature Scoob. Charlie Shotwell appeared in Captain Fantastic, The Glass Castle, All the Money in the World, The Nightingale, and Eli. He will next star as the young Michael Morbius in Sony’s Marvel Universe entry Morbius. Newcomer Milan Ray will next appear in Charm City Kings, which features a story by Barry Jenkins.
