Directed by Nancy Buirski, the documentary By Sidney Lumet examines the early life of, the influences upon, and the films of the director responsible for such classics character-driven dramas and thrillers as 12 Angry Men, The Pawnbroker, Serpico, Murder on the Orient Express, Dog Day Afternoon, Network, Prince of the City, The Verdict, Daniel, and Before the Devil Knows You're Dead. The documentary, which began production before Lumet died in 2011, features the influential filmmaker discussing his long and acclaimed career. By Sidney Lumet premiered locally during the 2015 Austin Film Festival, when Nancy Buirski discussed with Lights Camera Austin the documentary she inherited, structured and completed. She previously directed The Loving Story, the 2011 documentary that served as an inspiration for Jeff Nichols' 2016 fact-based interracial drama Loving. By Sidney Lumet will screen 7 p.m. Jan. 3 and 1 a.m. Jan. 4 on KLRU as part of the PBS American Masters series. It also is available for online viewing at (http://video.klru.tv/video/2365921903/).
