"Addict Named Hal"
Writer/director Lane Michael Stanley’s semi-autobiographical drama Addict Named Hal offers a personal glimpse of life inside a halfway house. Played by Natalie L'Amoreaux, college student Amy enters an Austin-area halfway house for alcohol recovery. She quickly forms a strong bond with Hal (Ray Roberts II), a heroin addict who returns to the halfway house after spending time in jail. But Amy’s overwhelming grief for her late father threatens both her and Hal’s sobriety. The cast also includes Donata De Luca as house manager Rich, Daniela Vidauure as halfway house resident Tony, and Peggy Schott as Amy’s mother Beth. Addict Named Hal screens 4:15 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Rollins Theatre and 9:45 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Galaxy Theatres Austin during the Austin Film Festival. Former Austin resident Lane Michael Stanley makes their directorial debut with Addict Named Hal, an adaptation of their short play and short film. Addict Named Hal is based on Stanley’s 2016 six-month stay at a Baltimore halfway house for alcohol and drug recovery following the death of their fiancé from a heart attack. Aired: Oct. 7, 2021.
