"Legacy"
Directed by Jack Cochran and Pamela Falkenberg, the poetry film Legacy employs stop-motion animation to visualize Vancouver-based writer Fiona Tinwei Lam’s 2002 poem of the same name. The Lam-recited poem uses food—specifically homemade fruits pies, congee breakfasts, and dim sum—as a means to analyze a failed cross-cultural marriage. Legacy will screen at 7 p.m. July 18 at the AFS Cinema as part of the encore screening of the AFS Member ShortCase 2022. The program, which features seven short films made by Austin Film Society members, originally screened as part of this year’s SXSW Film Festival Community Screening series. The Austin-based cinematographer Jack Cochran and the Rockford, Illinois-based filmmaker Pamela Falkenberg specialize in making films based on poems by Cochran and other writers, including Lucy English and Dave Bonta.
