Interview:
Erica Nix,
star/producer,
"Erica's First Holy Sh!t"
Just because Erica Nix is a very famous (Austin specific) fitness and workout guru does not mean she is immune from the same personal and professional problems as her devoted clients. In the pandemic-prompted satire Erica’s First Holy Sh!t, the highly fictional screen version of Nix undertakes a surreal journey of self-discovery marked by encounters with God, Satan, Mother Nature, and a certain actress now best known for her wellness and lifestyle brand. In addition to grappling with her white privilege and the size of her carbon footprint, Nix must address the mental toll of her recent divorce and rethink her place in Austin at a time when artists and the power are being priced out of the city. Erica’s First Holy Sh!t premieres 7:30 p.m. Friday at Distribution Hall. Erica’s First Holy Sh!t represents the first film by the Austin artist collective This Is Not a Cult, which comprises of star and producer Erica Nix, producer Jeremy Stilb, director of photography/editor Jess Gardner, and producer/writer Sawyer Stoltz. Formed in 2019, the collective previously staged the multimedia production This Is Not A Cult: An Erica Nix Aquatic Odyssey. Influenced by fitness video pioneers Jane Fonda and Richard Simmons, Erica Nix employs a bright and bubbly alter ego as an in-person and virtual personal trainer, a proponent of body positivity, and a prominent member of Austin’s LGBTQ+ community. She hosts the Splash Dance! poolside aerobics class at 10 a.m. Sundays at the Austin Motel and her fitness videos can be streamed at https://workoutwithericanix.com/. Note: The film is referred to as Erica's First Holy Poop during this interview in accordance with KOOP 91.7 FM and FCC rules and regulations. Aired: April 28, 2022.
