Interview:
Kyra Elise Gardner,
director,
"Living With Chucky"
For director Kyra Elise Gardner, Living With Chucky represents more than just an opportunity to chronicle the history of the Child’s Play franchise and examine the enduring popularity of cinema’s favorite foul-mouthed killer doll. The documentary serves as a love letter to both her father Andy Gardner, a special effects designer who worked as a puppeteer on three Chucky sequels, and to the cast and crew of the franchise she grew up around and enjoy a tight family bond. Living With Chucky features interviews with Gardner’s father Tony, creator Don Mancini, franchise producer David Kirschner, Chucky voice actor Brad Dourif, and film and television cast members Jennifer Tilly, Alex Vincent, Billy Boyd, and Fiona Dourif, the daughter of Brad Dourif. Living With Chucky will screen at 2:25 p.m. Sept. 25 and 5:40 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Alamo South Lamar during Fantastic Fest. Just three years old when her father Tony Gardner brought home the Chucky dolls he created and operated for Seed of Chucky, Gardener would as an adult contribute uncredited puppetry to Curse of Chucky. Living With Chucky is an expansion of Kyra Elise Gardner’s student documentary short about the Child’s Play franchise.
