Interview:
Ric Roman Waugh,
director,
"Greenland"
Directed by the Austin-based Ric Roman Waugh, the disaster movie Greenland focuses on the final days leading up to an extinction-level comet strike. Gerard Butler stars as John Garrity, a structural engineer designated to receive emergency shelter under the assumption that he will help rebuild humanity after the comet named Clarke hits Earth. But John is separated from his estranged wife Allison (Morena Baccarin) and their son Nathan (Roger Dale Floyd) before their military flight from Atlanta to a destination unknown. With society on the brink of coollapse, the family must overcome many unexpected obstacles if they are to reunite in time and their way to Greenland to safety. Greenland also stars Scott Glen as Allison’s father Dale. Greenland represents the second collaboration between the Austin-based Ric Roman Waugh and actor Gerard Butler following last year’s Angel Has Fallen, the third entry in Butler’s Has Fallen franchise. They will reunite for the upcoming thriller Kandahar as well as for Butler’s fourth outing as U.S. Secret Service agent Mike Banning in Night Has Fallen. A former stuntman and stunt coordinator, Waugh previously directed In the Shadows, Felon, Snitch, and Shot Caller as well as the documentary That Which I Love Destroys Me. Note: This interview was conducted before it was announced Ric Roman Waugh would return to direct Gerard Butler in Night Has Fallen. Aired: Dec. 24, 2020.
