"Apollo 11"
Director Todd Douglas Miller’s documentary Apollo 11 presents a day-by-day account of the historic 1969 Moon landing mission mostly through the use of unreleased large-format footage found with in conjunction with NASA and the National Archives and Records Administration. Miller eschews interviews to take a direct cinema approach to chronicling the 8-day mission, which resulted in Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin being the first men to step foot on the Moon. Apollo 11 premiered locally during this year’s SXSW Film Festival and is now in theaters. Todd Douglas Miller previously directed Dinosaur 13, Scaring the Fish, and Gahanna Bill.
