Interview:
Schuyler Fisk,
"Sam & Kate"
Like mother, like daughter. The family dramedy Sam & Kate pairs former Austinite Schuyler Fisk and her mother Sissy Spacek for the first time in a film since Fisk appeared as a child actor opposite Spacek in the early 1990s films The Long Walk Home, Hard Promises, and Trading Mom. In Sam & Kate, Fisk stars as bookstore owner and onetime folk singer Kate and Spacek plays Kate’s lonely divorced mother Tina. Kate receives a brief reprieve from her efforts to help Tina address her hoarding disorder when she meets Sam, an unemployed cartoonist whose life and career has stalled. While Kate takes things slow with Sam, Tina welcomes interest from Sam’s stubborn but charming father Bill. Dustin Hoffman plays Bill and his son Jake Hoffman plays Sam. Written and directed by Darren Le Gallo, and executive produced by his wife Amy Adams, Sam & Kate premiered locally during this year's Austin Film Festival and is available for digital and on-demand viewing beginning Friday, Nov. 18. The daughter of actress Sissy Spacek and director/ production designer Jack Fisk, former Austinite Schuyler Fisk previously starred in The Baby-Sitters Club, Snow Day, Orange County, I’m Reed Fish, Restless, and the Austin-shot Hot Air. A singer-songwriter, Fisk released her third album “We Could Be Alright” on Nov. 4. She also performs the song “Life After” in Sam & Kate. Aired: Nov. 15, 2022.
