Representing the directorial debut of Tyler Nilson and Michael Schwartz, the kindhearted dramedyThe Peanut Butter Falcon follows the road trip undertaken by a young man with Down Syndrome (newcomer Zach Gottsagen) and a crab fisherman (Shia LaBeouf) wanted for arson. Zak longs to live life, so he escapes from a nursing home in order to find his childhood hero, pro-wrestler the Salt Water Redneck (Thomas Haden Church). Zak crosses paths with Tyler, who has fled his Virginia hometown after accidentally burning down property belonging to a rival crab fisherman. Tyler strikes up an unexpected friendship with Zak after Tyler agrees to escort Zak to North Carolina to find the Salt Water Redneck. On their trail is Eleanor (Dakota Johnson), a nursing home volunteer who wants to bring Zak to return to Virginia before his disappearance comes to the attention of state authorities. The Peanut Butter Falcon also stars Thomas Haden Church as the Salt Water Redneck, John Hawkes as Tyler’s rival, and Bruce Dern as Zak’s roommate.
