"Andy Paris:
Bubble Gum King"
Bubble, bubble toil and trouble. Andy Paris: Bubble Gum King recalls the rise and fall of the McAllen, TX, manufacturer whose American Dream almost died at the hands of the IRS. Co-directed by the Austin-based John Paris, the son of the late Andrew J. Paris, the documentary chronicles how the bubblegum manufacturer made a fortune during and after World War II. After he became a household name, though, Paris caught the attention of a suspicious IRS that seemed intent on finding tax fraud where possibly was none. Andy Paris: Bubble Gum King will screen 7 p.m. June 22 at the Texas Spirit Theater at the Bullock Museum with John Paris and co-director Gabriel Ramirez in attendance. The documentary also is available for VOD viewing.
