Interview:
RZA,
director,
"Cut Throat City"
The third film directed by rap icon-turned-filmmaker RZA, the post-Hurricane Katrina crime thriller Cut Throat City, takes us to a devastated New Orleans stymied in its recovery efforts by widespread corruption and federal bureaucracy. Shameik Moore stars as Blink, a graphic novelist unable to find work to support his family. So Blink and his friends (Demetrius Shipp Jr., Denzel Whitaker, Keean Johnson) pull off a casino heist at the direction of gang boss “Cousin” Bass (rapper T.I.). When the heist turns deadly, Blink and his surviving friends still must pay “Cousin” Bass his anticipated share of stolen money or face his wrath. Cut Throat City also stars Kat Graham, Eiza González, Rob Morgan, Isaiah Washington, Terrence Howard, Wesley Snipes, and Ethan Hawke. Cut Throat City, which was scheduled to screen during this year’s SXSW Film, opens Aug. 21 in Austin theaters. Wu-Tang Clan founder and music producer RZA previously directed the music drama Love Beats Rhymes and co-wrote/directed the martial arts epic The Man With the Iron Fists, which costarred RZA as The Blacksmith. RZA also is the creator of the Hulu television series Wu-Tang: An American Saga, which features Cut Throat City star Shameik Moore as Wu-Tang Clan rapper (Ray-Quan) Raekwon.
