Interview:
Simon Rumley,
director,
"Johnny Frank Garrett's
Last Word"
Based on the documentary The Last Word by Jesse Quackenbush, director Simon Rumley's chiller Johnny Frank Garrett's Last Word chronicles the strange pattern of deaths that occurred in Amarillo, TX, 10 years after the execution of the young man who allegedly confessed to and was convicted of raping and killing a 76-year-old nun. The murder was later linked by DNA to another man. In Johnny Frank Garrett's Last Word, people connected to the case start to die, prompting one juror to question whether Johnny put a curse of everyone connected to his case. Johnny Frank Garrett's Last Word stars Grow Up, Tony Phillps' Devin Bonnee as Johnny Frank Garrett, Mike Doyle as Adam Redman, a juror who comes to believe in Johnny's curse, as Sean Patrick Flanery as the prosecutor responsible for putting Johnny on trial. The Louisiana-shot Johnny Frank Garrett's Last Word will screen 4:30 p.m. March 19 at the Alamo South Lamar during the SXSW Film Festival. Simon Rumley previously directed The Living and the Dead and the Austin-shot Red, White and Blue. His next film is the biography Crowhurst. He is about to shoot Fashionista in Austin.
