Executive produced by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, aka the Russo Brothers, the new Prime Video globe-trotting action series Citadel pits the survivors of a secret international spy organization against a syndicate of crime families intent on creating global chaos in its bid to accumulate wealth, power, and influence. Episode 1 opens with Citadel agents and former lovers Mason Kane and Nadia Sinh both sustaining serious injuries and long-term memory loss as a result of a bloody encounter with Manticore henchmen on a train in Italy. Several years later, and still suffering from amnesia, Kane has started a new life completely unaware of his deadly past or that Manticore has assassinated all but a handful of Citadel agents. But then Kane crosses paths with fellow Citadel agent Bernard Orlick, who emerges from hiding in need of the Kane of old to retrieve a Citadel suitcase containing nuclear codes that’s fallen into Manticore’s possession. This mission leads Kane back to Sinh. The real intrigue then begins. One of the most expensive television series ever produced, in part due to extensive reshoots, Citadel stars Richard Madden as Mason Kane, Priyanka Chopra Jonas as Nadia Sinh, Stanley Tucci as Bernard Orlick, Lesley Manville as Manticore operative Dahlia Archer, and Roland Møller as twin brothers and Manticore henchmen Anders Silje and Davik Silje. Episodes 1 and 2 of Citadel are now streaming on Prime Video, with the remaining four episodes of Season 1 scheduled to premiere on Thursdays. Brothers Anthony Russo and Joe Russo launched their directing career with the comedies Pieces, Welcome to Collinwood, and You, Me and Dupree while also directing episodes of Arrested Development, Community, Happy Endings, and Up All Night. The Russo Brothers then transitioned to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, directing Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. Since departing the MCU, the Russo Brothers have directed the streaming movies Cherry, The Gray Man, and the upcoming The Electric State through their production company AGBO. They also produced 21 Bridges, Mosul, Extraction, and the Oscar-winning Everything Everywhere All at Once. Extraction 2, which features the return of both star Chris Hemsworth and stunt man turned director Sam Hargrave, premieres June 16 on Netflix. The second season of the horror series From, executive produced by the Russo Brothers, is now streaming on MGM+. Aired: May 2, 2023.
