"The Beta Test"
Would you accept an invitation to an evening of anonymous, no-strings-attached sex? This is the question posed by The Beta Test, the David Fincher-style erotic Hollywood satire written, directed, and starring Jim Cummings and PJ McCabe. Cummings stars as Jordan, an anxious, fast-moving Hollywood agent about to tie the knot to the seemingly patient Caroline (Virginia Newcomb). Then the aforementioned invitation arrives in the mail, sending Jordan into an emotional and psychological tailspin. Who sent the invitation? Who would he hook up with during the one-night stand? Is someone trying to blackmail him? Has his online personal data been compromised? Jordan’s preoccupation with what could be begins to threaten his relationship with Caroline and a business opportunity he is carefully cultivating for many months. PJ McCabe costars as a fellow agent and Jordan's confidant. The Beta Test, which premiered locally during this year’s Fantastic Fest 2021, opened Nov. 5 in theaters and will also be available for digital and on-demand viewing. Jim Cummings also directed 2010's No Floodwall Here, 2018’s Austin-shot Thunder Road, and last year’sThe Wolf of Snow Hollow. He recently costarred in Halloween Kills. PJ McCabe makes his feature film writing and directing debut with The Beta Test.
