The Austin Film Society's August 2023 programming at the AFS Cinema includes the series Jeanne Moreau, Filmmaker, featuring three narrative and non-narrative films directed by the iconic French actress, and the special event The Fleischer Studios Legacy, which includes three packages of restored shorts made by Max Fleischer and his animation studios as well as Q&As with Fleischer's granddaughter Jane and animation historian Ray Pointer. New releases include The Unknown Country and Cat Video Fest 2023 while Ryûsuke Hamaguchi's 2008 thesis film Passion receives its Austin premiere. Retrospective screenings include Carmen Jones, Persona, Raising Arizona, The Wicker Man, and Yojimbo as well as the Lates selections Marquis, Oldboy, and Tokyo Pop. The Queer Cinema: Lost & Found series brings Taxi Zum Klo to the AFS Cinema.
