Interview:
Yorgos Lanthimos,
writer/director,
"The Lobster"
What animal would you want to be? That’s the question Colin Farrell’s downtrodden everyman faces in writer/director Yorgos Lanthimos’ futuristic allegory The Lobster. If Farrell cannot find true love within 45 days, he will be transformed into an animal of his choice. That’s the punishment that awaits all the single men and women trapped at a hotel resort in a near-future city that only values the married. Finding someone compatible to fall in love with is not as easy as it seems for Farrell, even with his life on the line. Rachel Weisz costars as the woman of mystery who captures Farrell’s eye. The dark comedy also stars John C. Reilly, Spectre’s Lea Seydoux and Ben Whishaw, and The Night Manager’s Olivia Colman. The Lobster, which premiered locally during last year’s Fantastic Fest, opens May 20 in Austin. Yorgos Lanthimos previously directed Dogtooth, Kinetta, and My Best Friend.
